Have you ever tried a dance workout? Oh my God! When I discovered dance workouts a whole new world opened up to me.
It was a little less than 10 years ago, and I had just given birth to my second child. I was nursing her and working part time, and I wasn’t about to start a gym membership that would require even more time out of the house.
Enter Beyonce and her instructional workout video for Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign, which helped me to finally learn how to do the dougie. I subsequently forgot, but I got some damn good workouts in the process.
Dance is great for me, because it makes the time fly. Instead of watching the clock, I lose track of time and end up sweating well past the 30 minutes that I initially promised myself that I would “at least do”.
I do other things like weight training, yoga, and the occasional bike ride. I usually don’t run unless I’m being chased, so No Thanks on that one. Dance is my favorite by far.
I’ve taken salsa and pole fitness classes in the past. Pole is a quite daunting for many reasons. Lol! I’d love to continue with salsa once the world is right side up again and such gatherings are safer. But for now, I’m content to try my hand at making up a few routines of my own.
Here’s the first. Its just a little Afrobeats warmup that you can use to get started. Feel free to join me! I’m sure you can spare 4 minutes and 18 seconds. Or, if you choose to put it on repeat in order to learn the routine fully, you WILL get a good waist/core workout.
